Supercars and hypercars are dumb toys for the rich and spoiled. There’s no use for them besides impressing people.

Kinja'd!!!

That being said, the most “super” car I’d ever own would be a Murcielago or a Ferrari FF. That being said also, on my top 20 favorite cars; you won’t find any supercars.

I used to agree, especially after driving an Atom. I was thinking why would you pay 5x the amount for say a McLaren. Then I drove a McLaren and now I get it. They are toys like you said but man are they awesome. Speed is fun despite what the internet says.

Those type of things always make me happy :) same with the higher-end Corvettes, you see someone doing silly shit (off public roads and not endangering other drivers of course) and know that some good ole boy or gal has done well and is enjoying the piss out of it.

I think the top hypercars are doing that but not most supercars. I'd say the i8, everything from CvK, and the hypercar triplets are true engineering accomplishments.

I think it depends on how you define supercar. I consider my SL to be a supercar (what isnt super about it?!) but most people disagree.

But aside from that, I agree with what youre saying. Modern supercars are a little pointless on public roads.

I both agree and disagree.

I agree based on the fact of the number of high end cars sold with improper transmissions and the number of times I’ve seen a Prius pass a [Ferrari / Maserat / Lamborghini] because they are driving under the speed limit.

I disagree becasue I am the exception, should I acquire the money to purchase the ultimate of vehicles, they would find track time.

Or, for enjoying high performance driving. Impressing people is not really in my mind when I'm driving a super. It's sort of a fun side effect but the car itself is usually the draw for me. That said, I'm not a big super car fan either. My favorite experiences are in older, very engaging sports cars.

On the whole, I think that’s true, but there is a trickle-down affect from high-end cars.

ABS, active suspensions, e-diffs, flappy-paddles, carbon construction, tire tech all starts out as money-losers on supercars that are part of daily life today. Hell, even backup cameras are old mid-engine technology

Can’t pass up an opportunity to post my favorite gifs, even though I sort of agree with you.

I think they’ve somewhat lost their luster after having the opportunity to see most of the supercars and hypercars in person. I think the accessibility that cars and coffee type events gives to this types of cars makes them lose some of their specialness. Except for the F40, Ford GT40, and Daytona/Superbird. Everything I see one I still get the chills. Edit: Stratos too. Hnnnggg.

The problem isn’t the cars, it’s the people that buy them.

In order to afford a $250k+ vehicle, you either need to obsessively put earning $$$ before all else in your life, or have a dad that did. Neither of which leads to a particularly well rounded individual.

It’s not in style anymore to race cars on track.

I think that this did not used to be the case, but is becoming the case. supercars are gradually becoming faster/better performing than can be experienced on public roads (safely of course) and now even some tracks. They are becoming so advanced that they are boring to drive slow. I think we will hit a peak where they wont have any reason to put more power into street cars. 300-500 horsepower seems like a sweet spot. I feel the market for mid level cars (like lotus) will come back. Now if only lotus can get their shit together to capitalize on it.

Wrong. They also serve as key characters in your favorite racing game :)

But really, I disagree. It depends on the owner I guess as far as who is doing what to impress people, but there are plenty of people who would love to have a supercar to actually have an enjoyable and unique driving experience.

There is an extreme, extreme want for a manual SV Murci but I don’t even want to know how much those will go for (even compared to autos) IF they come up.
